A relaxed place to ask the big questions
Wondering what you actually believe? Curious about God, meaning, or what all this is for? You're in good company — and you're very welcome to explore it with us, no pressure and no church background needed.
University and your early twenties are when a lot of people start asking the bigger questions for the first time. What do I actually believe? Is there a God? What's the point of any of it? Those are good questions, and you don't have to figure them out on your own or pretend you've got it sorted.
It's okay to have questions
At ROOT 66 we take questions seriously, including the hard ones — doubt, suffering, science and faith, whether the Bible can be trusted, and what difference any of it makes on a normal Tuesday. Nobody will think less of you for asking. Honestly, the questions are where the best conversations start.
You don't need to have it worked out
You don't need to believe anything in particular to come along, and you won't be put on the spot or asked to pray out loud. Lots of people who come aren't sure what they think, and that's completely fine. Come and listen, push back, and make your own mind up in your own time.
What we actually do
Each week we open a bit of the Bible together, talk it through properly, and see how it lands for real life. It's a conversation, not a lecture — relaxed, honest, and usually with something to eat. You're free to join in as much or as little as you like.
Questions people often arrive with
- Can you be a thinking person and still believe in God?
- If God is good, why is there so much suffering?
- Hasn't science explained all this away?
- Is the Bible actually reliable?
- What would following Jesus even look like for me?
We won't pretend to have tidy answers to everything, but we'll take your questions seriously and explore them honestly together.
Come and see for yourself. ROOT 66 meets every Thursday, 7–8pm at Bede Tower, Sunderland. It's free, there's no booking, and no church background is needed. Come exactly as you are.
